Chris Claassen is a political scientist who researches public support for democracy and majority group attitudes to immigrant and ethnic out-groups. He also conducts research in quantitative methodology, with a focus on survey methods and Bayesian data analysis.

His research has been published in the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, and Political Analysis, among other leading journals. Chris was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2021. From 2021 to 2023, he was the UK PI for the NORFACE-funded project, “A Rural Urban Divide in Europe?”

Originally from Durban, South Africa, Chris completed a PhD in political science at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He is currently a professor of political behaviour in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow.
